Papercraft, Brilliant Ideas with Papers

Pepercraft is a kind of art to make two or three dimensional objects by cutting, folding, and attaching papers as medium. Not using the devices such as computer-professional program to make they are realistic, but papercraft can do more than that by transforming with various shapes of papers.

Deepti Nair and Harikrishnan Panicker who are known collectively as Hari & Deepti, they are a artist couple who create paper cut light boxes. It is usually used to express the difference of brightness of the picture which is shown to be two-three dimensional, and make it more like fairytale because the gap of the brightness between the upper part of the layers of the paper and the lower part(which is depth). It looks like illusion.

Hari & Deepti started this kind of art since 2010 as an experiment. Since they moved to Denver from India in 2014 fall, they travelled to Asia and Europe to collect inspiration of stories to make their art. Because they are storyteller who tells the story through their art, they expressed about what they want to talk and show by using simple shapes of sculpture which is made of many layers of paper. It is simple, but at the same time, it is very complicating which requires the ability to think in various perspective before they cut the papers, what shape it is going to be. They emphasized, "Paper is brutal in its simplicity as a medium." But it is playful, light, colorless and colorful, they said. Paper is a medium which have advantage and weakness at the same time. They think this is overcoming limitless of the paper as a medium, and make much possibility of it as they are artist.

I was inspired of this art because I am proudly interest to tell the story like a fairytale through the artwork. Especially this kind of papercraft using the light and shadow, it can make emotional mood and I always tried to seek this idea. This is awesome, and made me feel passionate. If there is a chance to try, I gladly want to do it.
